Meet Orange is the New Black’s Laura Prepon

Dec 3, 2018 | Meet A Mom

I am a child of the 80s, but when That 70s Show started airing in the late 90s, I was hooked almost immediately.  While Red was my favorite character (I’m a total sucker for a good curmudgeon), I, like many Midwestern girls, completely identified with Donna.  I’ve been a fan of Laura Prepon ever since.  My favorite character of Prepon’s is probably Hannah from October Road, a  lesser-known TV drama that, much to my disappointment, was canceled after just two seasons.  Alex Vause, the jailed international drug smuggler she plays on Orange is the New Black, is her masterpiece.   While I’ll always have an affinity for Donna, Laura Prepon’s newer projects have really illustrated her strengths as both an actress and a director.

Her newest project is one we can all relate to – mom to 1-year-old Ella, who she shares with her husband, Ben Foster.  We moms all struggle with feeding out children healthy food, and this struggle inspired Laura to action.  On top of her incredible acting career, she also co-wrote the New York Times bestseller The Stash Plan with nutritionist Elizabeth Troy, who is known for combining Eastern holistic medicine and food science in her practice.

According to the New York TImes book review, “after years of Prepon starving herself with strict and unsatisfying diets and punishing herself with tortuous workouts, Troy “unstuck” Prepon’s malfunctioning organs and metabolism through targeted eating and stretching that finally allowed her to lose those stubborn pounds and thrive.” Pretty incredible, right?

The Local Mom’s Network chatted with her about the filming, the books, and how motherhood has fundamentally changed her life.  Check out the full interview on our mother site HERE, and don’t forget to follow @thelocalmomsnetwork on Instagram for other feature profiles!
