Tell us a little about yourself:
I was born and brought up in India and moved to the US in 1999. My husband and I have lived in the Cleveland area for 20 years and absolutely love this city. I completed my bachelors in Business Management and Accounting and own Color Me Mine in Pinecrest. I have three kids, 2 daughters and one son ages 12, 10 and 6. We love spending time together as a family and having fun outdoors. I have a passion for dance and the arts and find it very therapeutic. I love listening to music and traveling.
I absolutely love being at my studio and managing it. I love the fact that families and friends come together to spend some quality time together. I live by the simple rule of treating people the way you would like to be treated. I look forward to opening my second studio in Summit Mall (Akron) and am excited about my journey.
What’s your favorite things about NE Ohio?
My family and I love Cleveland. NE Ohio brings the best of both worlds. The fun of being in a big city because there is so much to do around here and the convenience of a smaller city with regards to Traffic and parking.
What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I do not like popcorn. Everyone seems to be very surprised by this one fact! 🙂
Please tell us about your business! Why did you start it and how did you know this is what you wanted to do?
Color Me Mine is a paint your own pottery studio that brings families and friends together. Its a place you can come to after a hard day of work and spend some wonderful time with your loved ones. All you have to do is come and enjoy painting we take care of everything else including refilling the paints for you. Once you are done with painting we glaze and fire the pieces to make them food safe. Once its bagged and ready we give you a call to come pick it up. All our paint is non toxic.
I love arts and crafts, I find it very therapeutic and relaxing. Painting pottery was one of my favorite things to do with my kids. It was the best time spent with them because no one asked for a phone or watch TV. It was just us being creative and having a good time. I cherish these moments I spent with them and always wanted to start a business that could bring this experience to other families.
How did you grow awareness of your Studio?
I could not have done this myself. My marketing partners and Pinecrest helped me tremendously in creating awareness for the Color Me Mine brand. I am very very thankful to all of them
What’s your proudest accomplishment?
I feel my biggest accomplishment was to leave the comfort of doing a 8-5 job with a secure paycheck and starting a business. I always wanted to start my own business and am very happy that my dream is now a reality.
What was your biggest failure?
I feel education is the foundation of a good career and a good life and my one regret in life will be that I never completed my Masters degree.
What’s the one thing you’re most passionate about?
My family and now my studios
Can you give us one pearl of wisdom, the one thing you wish more people knew?
There are no shortcuts to success. Hard work, persistence and good work ethics will always pay off
What is the biggest resource you have used to help grow your business after you opened?
I didn’t know much about the power of social media before I started my business. I wasn’t someone who was on social media too much but today I can say that Social media has been my number one resources in growing my business along with my marketing partners.
How do you juggle being a working mom?
I feel organization and time management is the key to succeeding with so much on your plate. I involve the kids to help me out wherever possible and my biggest support system is my husband. I don’t think I could have done it without him.
Where do you hope to be in 10 years?
10 years from now we will be empty nesters. Would love to travel the world and focus on growing the businesses.
What’s the best payoff about working for yourself?
Flexibility on managing your time. I love the fact that I can actually see my kids off to school and also be there for them a lot more now.
Advice or resources for someone who wants to open their own business but doesn’t know where to start?
Just do it because there really won’t be a right time so don’t wait for one. The day you start will be the right time
Is there anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
My parents and a big thank you to my amazing and wonderful husband. He has supported me 100% in everything I have wanted to do and has helped me in my journey of being a mom and now a business woman.
