Nonprofit Spotlight – WISH Cleveland
Wish Cleveland was started out of a need to create a home base where people could go to learn about all the great organizations in Northeast Ohio that have been created to contribute to the greater good. A lot of nonprofits are small, run by just a few people, and may not have the resources to really get their name out there the way they hope too. Wish Cleveland addresses this and other problems that small charitable organizations are up against. They provide a platform that amplifies the voice of the little guys. Through thoughtful essays about groups and individuals, the content is powerful and relevant.
But they don’t stop there. And this year they’re going big for these little guys with a day called Giving Tuesday CLE. It is Cleveland’s first equity-based citywide day of giving. Their goal is to raise $360,000 for 36 organizations – each organization getting an equal slice of the pie. It is easy for nonprofits to feel like they are competing against each other for your time and donations. This seeks to change all that, level the playing field so to speak, and push the idea that together we can do so much more than any one of us on our own.
It’s ideas like these – the ones that question the status quo – that allow us to grow more and give more. If you’d like to be a part of a radically new way of fundraising you can find tickets to Giving Tuesday Cle here. All of the people that rely on all of the wonderful organizations that are a part of this fundraising effort hope to see you there.
For those of you interested in how this amazing organization came to be, check out the video below. It features the winning pitch to the Cleveland Leadership Center’s Accelerate: Citizen’s Make Change pitch competition in December 2015 by a woman named Pam Turos. Her idea? To create a place online (property optimized, indexed, and advertized so that it would actually be seen!) where Clevelanders could find out about the incredible and inspiring local people and organizations that are out to change the world for the better, starting with our little slice of heaven in Northeast Ohio. Her winning pitch awarded her $2000 and helped her launch The Good Cause Blog (now WISH Cleveland) in June of 2016. Want to be inspired? Watch it. Seriously.
Inspired? Awesome! No better time to get involved and contribute!
