I need to tell you about Cleveland’s best kept family fun secrets!!  I think one of the most untapped resources for families in our area is our local colleges and universities!!  I think everyone focuses on the Cavs, Indians and other large sporting events that we are really blessed to have here, but there is so much more!!!

My daughter and I just had the opportunity to attend a Cleveland State University Men’s Basketball game.  Not only are the tickets extremely affordable, but then I found out they have a super fun Kids Zone area every time they play at home on the weekends!  How cool is that?  Ticket prices start at $10.  Admission to the kids zone is included in your ticket price!   Kid zone opens 1 hr prior to tip-off and continues until the end of half time!

The Kid Zone includes (inflatables are subject to change):

  • Bounce House
  • Inflatable Obstacle Course
  • Basketball (shoot around or play with other kids)
  • Dollar Dogs
  • Free Popcorn
  • Post game layups on the court for kids 12 and under

In addition to the kids zone, the concourse has a basketball inflatable, balloon artist, and a coloring station where the kids can color their own CSU cheer poster!!

Our Experience

We headed down to the Wolstein Center.  Parking was really easy, as was getting downtown (parking was anywhere from $5-$15)!!  Our tickets had been emailed, so that made getting into the Stadium REALLY easy!!  I also need to shout out to the wonderful ticketing and security people at our gate!  They were so welcoming and made my daughter feel really special by joking with her and giving her a bag for FREE popcorn (which all kids get for weekend games, but nonetheless, she didn’t know that)!

The moment we were finished with security, my daughter spied a basketball inflatable and immediately wanted to play!!  She had so much fun shooting the ball!!

After her arm got tired, we headed down to the Kids Zone!   The inflatables were awesome.  All the kids were having a blast and the staff from Executive Events & Entertainment made sure everyone was safe and were very professional!  I couldn’t get my daughter off of the inflatables.   A lot of the older boys started a pick up basketball game!

Before half-time, we checked out the concession stand and balloon artist!  He was really nice, making lots of jokes and entertaining the kids while he made their creations!  Mia chose a Vikings helmet and he did not disappoint!!  The concession stand had a nice variety to choose from.  But since we were going to be eating dinner soon, we chose a soft pretzel and Gatorade!  Also–what’s with kids and Gatorade?  Is it their generations Kool-Aid?  Anyway–a quick stop at the coloring station and then back to the Kids Zone we went!!

I don’t think we watched a lot of the basketball game, but when we did, Mia was very interested in the cheerleaders!!  They did a great job entertaining the crowd!!  And at a few time-outs, the cheer squad had giveaways!!  Unfortunately, we didn’t win anything, but it was fun to try to catch t-shirts, basketballs and my daughter tried VERY hard to win a pizza!!

Mia and I had a blast!!  We spent a lot of time in the Kids Zone, but we were able to catch most of the second half of the game to see the Vikes WIN!!!  I wish my son could have come with us because he would have loved seeing all the dunks and skills these very tall men can do!

The fun didn’t end when the game ended.  We stayed afterward and Mia was able to shoot layups on the court!  While she’s only 5, she tried her best to reach the net and make the shots!!

Next Home Game with Kid’s Zone

If you think this sounds like fun, the Men’s Basketball team has a home game this Saturday, February 1 at 4pm.  The Kid’s Zone will be in full force with Inflatable Ax Throwing  and Touch-a-Trucks!!  So if ever there was a time to go, this would be it!!

Would I Recommend a CSU Men’s Basketball Game?

Absolutely!!  It’s great for your older kids, as well as your little ones.  Everyone will be happy and you won’t have to pull out your hair trying to figure out a place where your 12 year old and your 4 year old will be happy!!  Not to mention your wallet!!   I highly suggest you check out Cleveland State University’s Men’s Basketball Weekend Home Games!!
