Five Favorite Winter Jackets and Sweaters
Winter is coming y’all, and if you believe the Farmer’s Almanac, it’s going to be a doozy. It’s never to early to start thinking about gearing up for what’s to come. Here are some of my favorite winter clothing finds for you mamas out there looking to stay warm in this cooler weather!
Starting at $169
If you’re like me and you’re always one layer short of truly being ‘warm’ – this is for you. Gobi is a relatively new retailer with a very cool line of products – battery-operated heated apparel. They sell jackets for men and women as well as pants (fabulous for wearing UNDER your ski or snow pants), gloves, glove liners, vests, and socks.
These products belong in the ‘best winter clothing finds’ because all of them come with a re-chargeable battery that lasts anywhere between 8-12 hours, depending on the product. All of them also have 3 different temperature modes (low, medium, and high) and the battery length also depends on what mode you use. If you need the warmth longer than 10 hours, you can always buy an additional battery pack. Finally, all of their products are machine washable – just take the battery out first!!
I’ve had the sweatshirt for a few months now and I LOVE it. The 3 heat settings are truly genius – you can’t really feel the lowest setting, but the highest setting feels like being wrapped in an electric blanket. However, please order a size up – these run small.
I first saw this product with my family while shopping for a Christmas tree several years ago. Another mom was on the same hay wagon as we were with her 6-month-old strapped on under a jacket designed especially for baby-wearing. I’m a dedicated baby-wearer who hikes in all weather and I didn’t have this jacket! I was beside myself with envy.
This jacket specifically belongs in the ‘best winter clothing finds’ category because it can be worn with and without the baby-wearing insert – just zip it on and go! Note that these jackets do not come with the baby carrier, though – those are sold separately!
I’ve owned the BetaBrand black sheep wool cardigan for several years and it remains one of my favorite articles of clothing to this day. The sweater is unfinished wool but it isn’t itchy and can be worn with a t-shirt or a tank top underneath without issue. It is SUPER warm and perfect for layering, with the added benefit of being both flattering and comfortable. I’ve bought this sweater as a gift more than once – I love it that much. I know the sweater is a little on the pricey side, but it really is worth it. BetaBrand itself can vouch for its popularity just via their site design – all the clothing they feature is crowd-sourced & backed by ‘investors’ (people like you & me) who purchase their items sometimes before they’re even manufactured. Many articles don’t make it past initial investment and many more make it through only one manufacturing run. However, this sweater has been one of their top-selling items for years.
Just be aware, these sweaters are naturally sourced & can be difficult to get by a specific deadline, so pay attention to the estimated shipment dates when ordering.
You can’t go wrong with Patagonia for Cleveland winters. Water-repellent and thermogreen (recycled insulation) Patagonia is a triple win. This jacket is sure to keep the chill away while also looking pretty great, too. The stitching on this jacket is eye-catching, and I just love the metallic blue color. The chest pocket is the perfect size for your phone and license. Plus, like most things Patagonia, care is a breeze. Just throw it in the washer and dryer and it’ll look as good as new!
This plaid coat from Nordstrom is top on my list for fall finds – I’ve had it bookmarked now for weeks in the hopes I can justify it for myself this fall, and I’m thinking our annual holiday photo shoot will be go time for me! The length, pattern, and cut are just SO flattering, and I absolutely love the paisley lining. I’m a huge sucker for a great long coat, and this one may just be too awesome to pass up!
